REPRESENTATIVES from 24 voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) will be raising funds and recruiting volunteers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) today and tomorrow. The Charity Fiesta 2001 is an annual event organised by the NUS Students' Union Volunteer Action Committee. Among the VWOs taking part are the Hospice Care Association, Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and the Students Care Service. They hope to raise $40,000 through the sale of handmade handicrafts, stationery and food at stalls set up alongside information booths manned by the VWOs. 'We hope that more people will start helping those less fortunate than themselves,' said Mr Goh Kee Lee, 22, the event's director and a second-year engineering student.
