Charity
work
Several undergraduates from the National University of Singapore
are helping charity organisations in more ways than one.
Students from the NUS Volunteer Action Committee are
holding a two-day charity fiesta to raise money for charity
organisations.
In the event, which ends today, more than 20 charity groups sell
clothes, handicraft and food, among other items.
Students also do voluntary work in some organisations. Every
Wednesday, about 15 of them head for Boys' Town, Singapore, at Upper
Bukit Timah to teach the boys there English, mathematics and science
for about 1-1/2 hours.
On Saturday afternoons, about 20 members, out of the 80 in the NUS
Volunteer Action Committee, spend three hours teaching
mentally-disabled children art and craft at Towner Gardens School in
Towner Road.
